Not from the Sewing Closet

Another quilt in the making and
I had to do it and I DID IT !

I bought fabric !
No, I didn't need..... the fabric,
I WANTED the fabric.

I still have the closet full and I'm still using that too.
Maybe, it's the diet thing I'm doing (life style change...), a reward ??

OK, I have not excuse, I wanted fabric ! !

 I love this pasiley

It photographed yellow, but it's not.

Quilt Show Saturday Quilt 8-28-2010

Welcome

I was recently asked about this quilt.
Measures 50" x 50"

The topic was brought up about colors, styles and patterns. Quilter's color is fun, color does not have to always be matching, Try something new ! ! You will love it.

I don't think, I think outside the box,
I think I do what I like and when I like it, that is all that matters.

I made this to be washed all the time, it's the couch quilt.
It's machine pieced and hand quilted, with pearl cotton thread, so the stitches are a bit bigger, but not huge.

It's a very simple log cabin style pattern.

The plaid fabric is from a gift I received and the paisley is just what I like.
I cannot say, this enough, Don't over think a Quilt, do it !

Rug Cleaning

I love the blog world, check out what Robin has done with her Organizer
Just like mine ! !   She has a great blog too, so look around ! !

What a Project !
After finishing the painting, I couldn't leave the rug, it needed some attention.
We purchased this rug years ago, 100% wool and you can take water and clean it.
I've always just did cleaning spot to spot. Well.... I decided to really clean it !
Have you ever had a project and half way through think, "Why did I start this?"
Well, this is MINE.......

Before Husband left for work, he helped me carry it out onto the deck. With hose and brush, I went to work, and boy, did I work.

The corner before,
I checked the weather report for days to make sure I had a
couple of days of full sun and no rain.

The corner washed, wet and clean. The rug is heavy not wet, but wet....OH BABY.

That evening Husband helped me put it up on the railing, but the back was just not drying.

The next morning we moved it to plastic on the driveway and let the sun dry the back.  I set the timer and every 2 hours went out and folded it a different way to get it completely dry.

The finished rug, it turned out very nice,  loads and loads of work, but well worth it.
It looks beautiful.

Paint me a Living Room

I've NEVER liked the molding in this room, and after NOT doing my sewing room, I was up for a project. Husband did NOT like the idea of taking the molding down, so I PAINTED it.
As I told him, "The worse thing that happens, we take it down." In my book a win, WIN

So here's the before.

Painted the ceiling and walls, too, but I only cared about the molding.

And..... It's GONE, ALL GONE......

All gone, It's great and I love the room. This room is huge and we don't use the family room at all, we like this room, it's open and light.

I re-did the curtains into valances and it helps to make the room seem even bigger.

On to the next project.... The wool rug needs cleaned, and I may paint those speaker boxes??

Quilt Block Fun

I've been playing with the scraps in the closet again and I'm working on a new ebook,
here's a bit of what I'm doing.

I have a felt wall, but I don't like the light on it for photos. So, I just place things on the floor and take my pictures. The good thing about that is, I vacuum often in there.

Adding the color, POP.

Quilt Show Saturday Door 8-20-10

Welcome to
Quilt Show Saturday

Sometimes, it's more than the quilt that makes the bedroom.
I'm learning to listen to myself, after our Guest Room post, and seeing the pictures
and I didn't like what I saw, so, we fixed it. See yesterday's post.

I didn't think the hard part of all this would be hanging it.
Finding the stubs, marking, drilling, lifting and finally on the wall. I filled the holes,
re-painted, vacuum and remade the bed.

The door was level, but the stain glass wasn't. Had to fix.

The new headboard, I LOVE IT !

Yes the quilt, this quilt is over 20 years old and in the day I tied the quilt with yarn.

This quilt has been used, loved, washed and put in the dryer. It has lasted and is in very good shape, by just taking good care of it and purchasing the best fabric I could, I hope to have it for many more years.

The finished project.

NOW, I like it,
Next, 2 nightstands, I'm still looking for them, GW here I come !

P.S. Yes, the window is covered with a stain glass piece I did. I did three of them, I'll be sharing soon. Thanks for asking.

Show-n-Tell Door

A few weeks ago, I shared our guest room on Quilt Show Saturday

Looking at the pictures on the blog, I didn't like that there was no headboard.
Husband takes one day off during the week and we headed to a flea market. I mentioned a queen size headboard, but something different. And, look what we found. I liked the full walnut one that said, "Boys Locker Room", he picked this one. I think I'm rubbing off on him?

All the glass is perfect, I cleaned and cleaned.
We had the discussion to paint, I didn't.

He had to move the hinges to the other side so they could be left on,
They look great, old and a bit of rust. Love them.

The door handle, Stop back tomorrow and see the room on Quilt Show Saturday,

A Classic, A Tradition

Let's do some hand stitching !
Here is my basic hand piecing class

I feel all quilter's should at some time do hand piecing, I know you think I'm nuts, but it brings me back to the tradition of what quilters are all about. I try to do one every year or so. Your piece need not be a huge project, but please, try it.

This is my travel quilt box, would you believe it's an old Ethel M Chocolate box from Las Vegas about 20 years ago. It has everything but scissors,
you just can't travel with them anymore. I have gotten into the habit of keeping it all together. This box has been on many vacations, fishing trips and even at baseball/football
games in many towns.

Cut an assortment of fabric, For one block you will need
8 - 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"
and
4 - 2 1/2" x 1 1/2"
I just cut a pile of each and put the colors together as I piece.

Mark a 1/4" seam line on fabric back, I use a ruler and pencil.

Knot your thread and do a rocking stitch. After a bit you will not need the line, notice my thumb,
I use it as my measurement guide.

I use a thread about 18-20 inches long and string piece, knotting at the beginning and end of each block. Finger piece them open.

Draw seam line if needed. Place good fabric to good, pin and sew.

Open and finger press. Add 2 1/2" x 1 1/2' to side.
Draw sewing line, Pin and sew on line,

Finger press to the outside.

Take 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" and draw sewing line on each end, sew to 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" Do 2 times.
Draw seam line if needed. Place good fabric to good, pin and sew.

This is the back of my hand pieced block.

Two finished blocks, each block have a finished size of 4"

Take some time, don't take it all to serious, pick a comfy chair, good light and just have some HAND piecing fun.
