Amy's Creative Side - Blogger's Quilt Festival

I'm doing a Blogging Quilt Festival, this is the first time for me, please click on the logo and see all the wonderful quilts. All are great !
Welcome to Quilt Show Saturday

This quilt is from the first quilt book I purchased
"Holiday Happenings" by Christal Carter, published by That Patchwork Place, copyright 1987, it took me a bit of time to find the book on my bookcase it was on the very top, but,  in it's day it was a very popular book. This has to be my second or third quilt made, in the late 80's.

The patterns are all done around a log cabin.

This is the first time I did applique, and I didn't know how to do a blind stitch, so I did a running stitch on top of the pieces. As I look at it now, I see SO, many things that are not right, but I still like it, not perfect and all.

I machine pieced the quilt, hand applique and hand quilted.

Fun things all put Together

I like things just a bit different, but they seem to work.

Daughter-n-law #1 gave this to me and I love it. I didn't even think about re-painting it. It stands about 10 inches high and about 5 inches wide.

These are from craigslist, my Husband is craigslist nuts and he'll go and get my things, at just about any time or place.

I don't think the table is really a part of the set, but it came with it?

This is how I put them all together.

State Fair Quilts

I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and we drove over
and took in the Iowa State Fair. All the Quilts shown are for that contest 2010.

The quilt on the right with the red's and green, I really like the pieced work and applique together. The simple pattern next to it, the nine patch block and the applique work, I can't remember and can't find anything in my notes if it was hand done or machine !

Looking to the right, wonderful !

The one of the far left side the tan with the red pops of color.

If you had a quilt in the show, or better yet, see your quilt here over the next few Wednesday's, PLEASE comment or e-mail me, I have so many questions.

A Quilt Revisited

This is my first quilt

In the early 80's we moved to Burlington, Iowa, it's in the southeastern corner of the state on the Mississippi River and yes, I learned how to spell Mississippi.

I had done some blocks, some pillows and then I saw in the paper a class being hosted by the local quilt group. I remember it being expensive and how I agonized over it for days. but finally signed up.
The teacher was "Liz Porter" at the time she worked for one of the magazines, Better Homes maybe, but is was a wonderful day and I learned so much.

It was a color graduation class which meant nothing to me at the time, looking at the quilt today I didn't get the whole idea. Liz brought letters to add to each quilt to identify, I used my initials.

Hand quilting was so relaxing to me, I had no frame, just a dining room table, pinned it very well and quilted. I checked out library books on how to do everything. The quality of books we have now is crazy different from then.

I was approached to join the quilt group after the class. I think I was a rarity in the group a "new" member. I remember being laughed at when they saw my round corners on the quilt. I love these corners. This is my quilt, I curl up under it daily, it's washed all the time and it's just over 25 years old. It's never looked better.

Before Entry and After

Doing the new Star for the entry (last week), opened a whole new project.

The BEFORE

We changed the door out about 2 years ago, and I didn't get it painted.

Coat one and I did 5 coats to get the color I wanted.

I also, painted the floor with a really neat paint from Lowe's for concrete, it's really thick and not slick, it was a bit of a project but, worth it.

Winning Quilts

All Quilts Shown are from
the Iowa State Fair Quilt Contest 2010

Blue Ribbon Winner, this is the quilt, that pushed me to look at a new camera. This quilt is wonderful and I would look at the picture after it was taken and this is the best my first digital camera can do. This is a group made piece and it was unbelievable !

The flying geese pattern on the right(blue and green) , the points of the triangles, done very nice.
The blue and white in the center, notice how a very simple pattern, pieced very well, can take all the attention, it's the white background that makes the pop.

The pink house quilt top row, just too cute .

I've not gotten to the Blue Ribbons YET, so keep coming back on Wonderful Wednesday to see !

52 Weeks

52 Quilt Block Patterns in 52 Weeks

I'll be doing a quilt block pattern per week and sharing it. They will be all sizes and will be nothing that is in any of The Quilt Ladies Books or Ebooks.  Cutting and piecing instructions will be included.

I started with fabric, going through the closet and had a great time, mixing and matching. Here's my how to on Picking Fabric. I drafted all the pattern/instructions and have completed making all the blocks. So, I think it's time to start sharing them.

There will be one pattern per week,  stop back and see the first block.

The patterns will not be on the same day each week, to make sure you don't forget to check, sign up for Feed Burner on the side of this blog. You will received an e-mail when something new is posted on The Quilt Ladies.  Watch for the first block next week.

Quilt Show Saturday 10-16-2010

Welcome to Quilt Show Saturday

This is a quilt that I made long ago, our oldest son's, I think? It has been on our guest room bed for years. I think I took it before he left....

I love the simple pattern, I machine pieced and it was long arm quilted.

I had fun with the back for the quilt too, The sun was so bright the day I took pictures that you can almost see through the quilt.
