Quilt Ladies - I Love Chairs

I received this catalog in the mail, and whom ever added me to the list, hit the nail on the head.

Mac Kenzie-Childs and they have some of the coolest furniture - HERE is their website.

On the site I found a great picture of.......the dreamiest set.
(page 2 of the Early Spring 2011 catalog)

And the CHAIR ! ! !

Well, as I know Husband...... And showing the picture to him, he said, "Well, you have that chair of yours in the basement."

Here's my painted chair from 2 houses ago,  it sat on the front porch.....
I'm not seeing the resemblance? Do you?

New Cookbook - Review

You know at the grocery store how they have these cookbooks and you just have to buy XZY and it's yours. Well, I picked this one up, and it's a keeper !

"Spread a Little Joy"
and I did with "Rustic Caramelized Onion Tart" page 31

  • 1 Large Onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 Slices bacon, chopped ( I used 4 slices)
  • 1 ready-to-use refrigerated pie crust, use one crust
  • 1 pkg, (8oz) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened ( I used about 5-6 oz's)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (used greek yogurt)
  • 1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese (I didn't add)
  1. .COOK onions and bacon in skillet for 10-12 minutes, until onions are tender, stir as they cook
  2.  HEAT oven 400 F. unroll pie crust on baking sheep, mix cream cheese and sour cream. Spread on crust. Top with onion mixture. Leave a 2" border. Add cheese to top, (optional)
  3.  Fold over edge, leaving the center open, fold crust as needed
  4.  BAKE for 12-15 minutes - Cool a bit.
  5. You can also see, I'm the same with recipes as I am with quilts, I just can't leave them the way they come!

From the oven

The tart was just wonderful, I served with homemade Chicken Noodle Soup.

This is book is one to pick up, very nice !

“The red brick up the street?”
“I love that house. I was in it years ago.”
“You were in it?”
“Yes, yes.”
“Look here,” Jenny handed her the plans she had drawn out. Looking through them and then over the top of the page at Jenny.
“You’ve never been inside?”
“Just looked through the windows.”
“This is your house.”
The “Ladies” arrived and Jenny didn’t say a word about the house, neither did Helen.
Jenny didn’t want to have to explain things if it all didn’t work out.
“Any ideas? I received this fabric the other day in the mail from my mother,” Jenny said as she folded the box top back so they could see the fabric. A bold orange color with tiny flowers all over it.
 “Orange fabric?”
“I’d try a block with just white and orange. Try one, if you like it keep going,” Teresa added.
“Sometimes with wild colors, simple is the best. But make sure you wash it, no use of going to all the work and then have the color run.”
The afternoon was quiet and all worked on Mary Alice’s, Garden under the star’s quilt. It was finished and the “Ladies” headed home about two.
Jeffrey had awoken from his nap earlier and Jenny had his lunch ready for him, so he was ready to go when the “Ladies” left.
The real estate office was light and bright, and Carol Clark was just as Jenny had pictured.
She grabbed the house key and they headed to see it.
Helen asked, “Would it be alright if I go along too?”
“Oh yes, yes. You will see things I don’t. Yes, Please.”
Carol took them through the breezeway between the garage and house, Jenny had Jeffrey in her arms, and he looked at his mother strangely, as to say, “Relax mom, relax.” She giggled, took a deep breath and kissed him on the cheek.
It was as if she stepped back in time. Carol held the door open for them, Jenny was the first to step in.
She stopped just inside the door and said, “How am I going to do this?”
Helen was right behind her, “What?”
“It’s mine,” Helen took Jeffrey from her.
“You go, I’ll watch him,” Helen winked at her.

The winner's of the "Lapel Stick" have received an email and I'll share the winner's when I get their emails back. Congratulations to all !

Keep watching, I received an unbelievable product that I'm having a ball with, it will be posted in the next few weeks, and a give-away of it too !

I'm entering the FUN stage, I love applique and I do needle turn. See post - HERE

I draw out the design I want, measured the amount of space I had and then started drawing patterns. I use freezer paper, cut and iron the pattern on the fabric.

I did all the cutting and then did all the clipping of edges.

Using a number of different colors.

A little flower, a violet. I'm appliqueing away, I'll share soon. It's not moving as fast as piecing.

“This is it,” Emily said pointing to the picture.
It was an A-line dress with half sleeves and a matching coat jacket, with 5 buttons down the front. “Very nice,” is all Jane said. As she turned to fabric choices. Emily ran her hand over them. It took just a moment, “This one. How many colors does it come in? They are to pick any color they like or are comfortable wearing.”
Jane looked up, “Nice, very nice. It comes in 8 colors. I’ll need their choices soon so I can order the material.”
“Mary Alice choose,” Emily smiled.
“Soft pink.”
“They have no trouble deciding anything.”
Jane was startled a bit, “And how many will you need.”
Emily was holding up her fingers and counting, “Mary Alice, Teresa, Helen, Jenny, Baby Anna, Kimberly, Hannah and Molly.”
“And Sarah,” Mary Alice added.
“Yes, yes, that is a total of eight. Any problem doing them?
“Not at all,” Jane was now smiling.
She took all the measurements she needed from Mary Alice and asked that the others come in within the next week. She would have each in for a midway fitting and then a final fitting. She also explained that they had plenty of time and if Emily needed anything else to please let her know.
As Jane talked she was writing out a bill. Emily watched her for a moment and she too started writing. But hers was the check and in only Emily’s way, it was for the full amount.
Emily leaned over the counter, “Would you please make sure the “Ladies” have everything they need, nylons, shoes, gloves, handbags, anything they want and the bill goes only to me, for the girls too.”
“Yes, yes, Miss Brown, anything they want.”
As Mary Alice walked through the door and put her arm through Emily’s, smiling said, “I now know why the girls love to go shopping with you. You do make it fun.”

Welcome to Quilt Show Saturday

I changed the color placement a bit from what I had planned.

I had planned to use the paisley as the borders for the blocks. But laying it out, it just didn't work and looked off.

In this picture the fabric looks blue, but it is a rich deep purple.

Quilt Blocks for 52 Weeks

It's been a bit of a marathon in my sewing room. I told myself, that the 52 weeks patterns needed to be pieced before spring.

This is a self-inflicted decision. I can't wait to be outside in the garden, on the deck or just taking a very long walk.

I had all the patterns done, drawn out and cutting instructions done. When I started my marathon I had the patterns pieced through week 23 and in just over a week, I have the entire 52 quilt blocks pieced. FINISHED !

I think I've found the Paisley for borders too ! !

A pile of 52 Weeks of Quilt Block Patterns

Keep watching, one a week, they are wonderful !  Each week is added to "52 Weeks" are listed under "What's on this Site"

Lapel Stick

This is a glue stick for cloth. I started my applique project with a very open mind. I'm doing vines and flowers, I'm a needle turn gal and have not used anything like this before.

Working on my applique for my paisley quilt, I started with the vines, did a few and had no problem, I did have a damp rag for finger clean up, but that was not a problem.  Using the q-tip helped with control of the glue.

The leaves came out very well too and stitiching them down there was no sticky mess on my pins or needle.

Lapel Stick is safe for all fabrics and is water soluble. It states on the packing, non toxic, temporary, non-staining. "Put one in your purse, desk etc" A portion of each sale goes to JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

100 out of 100, Very nice product.
