Best Plan...And Husband??

I had a plan to go and get some quilt pictures.
WELL, my plan just didn't pan out !  I can laugh now, but the night I saw over 40 pictures and these are the best ????? I was a mess !

On our recent vacation, I took 3 quilts and if you are on pinterest.com
you've seen how beautiful they are done.

I'd planned to be at the beach (Anna Maria) my 9 a.m. get the pictures, spend some time and then go have lunch (I told Husband my plan) . Husband had other plans, to pick up his mom and getting to the beach at noon (Siesta Keys) . It wasn't his fault, but he did say, "Do you need anything done?" She did !  "Which beach do you like?"
I just about fell over as the words came out of his mouth, 2 times !

SO, next trip, we will have to re-do these,
you can see the heat in the pictures and in me.
My hair didn't look like that when we left that morning,

We'll TRY again, maybe with a professional !

Quilt Ladies 3rd Barn Fence Block

It didn't take long and Husband had me a square of plywood. See other's

We used 1/4" plywood, sanded just a bit, (I like seeing the texture of the wood) they measure 26" x 26", real barn ones are huge.
We taped off the size we liked on the fence before deciding, you will be surprised
how big it will need to be.

I'm using acrylic paints, a black paint marker to outline
and I did 3-4 coats of poly, on top, back and sides

This was to be the pattern, BUT

it was just a bit boring, added the outsides

and then the center

Finished ready to hang !

Quilts Around My House

This is the quilt that started it all for me. See Story
I had been making quilted pillows.

We moved to Burlington, IA and I went to a few quilt classes, auctions and was learning about quilting at every turn.

On a visit down to see us, my mother arrived with this quilt for me. As a child I'd never seen it, never heard anything about it.

My Great-great grandmother had made it for my mother. Mom remembers helping with cutting of the fabric and helped pump the sewing machine.

It's machine pieced and hand quilted.

The off blocks are done in a spider web quilt design.

The blocks are outline quilted

The edge and it's tiny stitches.
This quilt is never used.
I have it out on a bed, I just like to look at it

My Family Ladies and the Rocker

Happy Mother's Day

Long ago, my Great-great Grandmother made this quilt.
I knew nothing of the quilt or her until years and years later.
But this quilt changed a lot in me and in my life.

What I knew, was this rocker. This is my Great Grandmother, Martha Hale. The rocker was her's and she was the one who sat in it.  I remember her kitchen with a long white table and really heavy chairs. I remember the smells and I wish with all my heart I had been older to talk and listen to her.  She lived until she was 93 years old.

This is my Grandmother, Glade,  my hero, my heart and my friend. Grandma  lived, she laughed, she played and she worked very hard in a man's world of her day. She was teaching and I was learning from her until the day she left us, I had the honor of being her grand-daughter.

On one of the very last times I'd visited my Great-Grandmother Hale. My Grandmother Glade remembers me saying, "I love that rocker."   A week before my wedding Grandma Glade asked me to stop down, I did and when I arrived she gave me the rocker. She had  it for years, I'd never seen it in her home. When I asked she said, "I've been holding it for you."

This is my mother in the rocker.

And my Belinda, my sister, with Grandma Glade. Belinda was 9 years old when I was born, she named me, she never played with dolls again, she had me, I was her doll.
She gave me her love and she has mine, 100% until the day I die.

These ladies and this rocker is a staple in my life and in our home, it has rocked many babies, and it has never asked for anything. It's as solid as my family of Ladies.

Happy Mother's Day
to all who are with us and in our hearts today.
