My Paisley Quilt

I love paisley fabric and had to show my vacation quilt.
I used a very different palette of colors and patterns, it's just fun.

It's a very simple pattern, a 2 inch center square and them just log cabin around the outside with 1 inch strips.Simple quilt pattern in a paisley quilt
The finished size is a square 50" x 50" a good size for curling up on the couch. I used a 100% cotton batting and hand quilted.

Quilt Top All Together, Applique Quilt in Red and Green

Hope you are not tired of hearing about this quilt, but I had to put it on a bed. And take pictures. I took over 25..... Anyone for NUTS. The only way to explain it, as if it's a 4 carat diamond ring. Nuts...I know, but to me that's what is it.
This Wedding quilt has been a VERY long time coming. I'm sooooo.... pleased.
So, I'm on to get it put together, batting and backing. Take it to the show in October and then the HAND quilting is going to be my winter project. I'd also like to paint the kitchen cabinets, clean out everyone's things from our basement, the boy's, my mom's, husband's had to purchases. Get the Little Quilt Ladies to the printer and finish up book 13....

Quilts Color Fun - Picking Fabric Colors from Nature

Just a couple of tricks to help you look at color from nature.
I am always asked about color. This past weekend we attended a family union at my sister-n-laws acreage in Iowa. I always take loads of pictures, and use them as teaching tools.
Look at the pictures and notice the colors, the shades and the texture of the leaves or flowers.
How to Pick Fabric Colors from Nature
If this is the color group you like, start with a deep red, notice the hint of yellow centers, the beige of the new bloom, and all the greens. Work with what you like about the colors in a photo. How to Pick Fabric Colors from Nature
This photo, "What is the first thing your eyes see?" The GRAY figure, start with a gray color, add the soft lavender in the front, the soft cream yellow from the leaves on the right. Add more colors or less, it helps you to start the color process.

Print out your photo and head to your fabric stash or the fabric store. I always lay out my fabric and photograph them too. Always, always do one block before cutting a whole quilt, that is the time to change and rearrange. Just a couple of hints on how to start with color.

Corners are DONE on Book Eight Quilt of The Quilt Ladies Book Collection

They are FINISHED, the hand work, applique is ALL done ! ! !
I've add the extra leaves needed and it's time to add the batting and the backing.
I have to make a fabric store trip for the back. I think I'm going to do red....
I know, not the normal color, but the front is so traditional and I've always wanted a red quilt.
This quilt will not be used, I think this one is a look at quilt.

Finishing Vines and Leaves Book Eight of The Quilt Ladies Book Collection

The quilt is together and I have to do the finish work in the vines and leaves.
I left vine material to do this.

I always stitch the outside edge first, I think it's the way I was taught to do it.
I pin first and remove the pins as I go, this material was a bit frayed and needle turning was hard.

Then the inside curve, same as the outside, I pin first.

Leaves are next, just as the vines, pin and stitch. I clip the curve to help it lay down flat.

Have the center of the quilt together. And have to say, "I love it".
It is getting bigger and bigger. This one is a process, it will be hand quilted, by me and I have not idea how long that will take.
But, first I'm getting is all together.

Book 8 of the Quilt Ladies
A Wedding.....  bethanndoing.com
All Quilt Ladies Books on Kindle -
NOW all The Quilt Ladies Books are in ONE Book - HERE

The writing of book 8 was so much fun for me. I planned a wedding and had to answer, ask or tell anyone, why or what I wanted. From the simpleness of the day, to the family and friends. It is what I hope my day was about, many years ago.

At the time of book 8's writing, we lived in Windom, Minnesota. A VERY long way from home and I had some very long days and even longer nights. Son #2 was in high school, working, sports and always busy,
Husband had his first retail store and worked 24/7.

And I wrote, the wedding was on.....
I wrote, ate and dreamed of nothing but a wedding, for months and months.
Then came the quilt.
It was overwhelming, everything I've always wanted in a quilt.
This one was designed and done for me, no one else, just me.

There are 12 blocks, pieced on a sewing machine and hand appliqued with
vines and leaves.
