A quilt can become something different.
Quilted Rocking Chair Back

I enjoy the Amish colors and working with them is always fun.

Quilted Rocking Chair Back

I think this is the first time I used a dark batting and it makes a world of difference with the black fabric.

This is my Great-Grandmothers rocker. A very long time ago, I'd said to my grandmother, "What a great chair," and years later she arrived one day with it for me. With them both ladies gone, I just like setting is in, it brings me peace.

Not too do or Full of YOURSELF Quilt !
Full of YOURSELF Quilt, what not to do in Quilting
This is my what not to do quilt and it has never been to a quilt show, until now !

It's the quilt that gives my heart perpetuation's, It's just not right.

Full of YOURSELF Quilt

This quilt is 20+ years old and one of the first times I appliqued and pieced on the same quilt.

Full of YOURSELF Quilt

I think it would be better, IF I added loads more quilting, but that's not going to happen.
Machine pieced and hand appliqued and quilted (some what)

Can you also see that my colors are not right, the applique is lost in the piece work.

Full of YOURSELF Quilt, what not to do in Quilting

This is my, "don't get  full of yourself quilt ! "

It brings me right down to earth, every time !

I've come along way!   HA !

Graduation Quilt from 2000

Graduation Quilt from 2000
When both of our boys graduated from high school, I did a quilt for them to take to college. It was all the thing at the time, and may still be, to do a t-shirt quilt. To me, the boys needed my quilts.

Son #2 graduated in 2000 and I found this great fabric.

It's has 2000 printed on it.

The simple opposite block.

The quilt was machine pieced and long-arm quilted in spring 2000. It's the quilt they curl up under and watch television with still today !

Santa Quilt for The Holidays

This is one of the very first quilt blocks I ever drafted by myself.

Santa Quilt for The Holidays

I made it long, so that a number of people can curl up on the couch and use the same quilt. Nothing better with someone you love !

It's a very simple block, machine pieced and long-arm quilted.

Removing a Stain from an Old Quilt

Even when you do everything right,  this is what can happen. This is one of my old garage sale finds and one of the first quilts I get out when we have a chill in the air.
Removing a Stain from an Old Quilt
To my surprise, this is what I unfolded and found.   I think this quilt was $20 at a garage sale, the outside border was a mess and I cut that all off and put new binding on it and it's been used and washed for 10 years plus.  I store it in acid free tissue and then in a white 100% cotton pillowcase, like them all.   So, I figured I'd see if I could fix it.

Removing a Stain from an Old Quilt

I made a paste of liquid laundry detergent and non-chlorine all fabric bleach. I know some of you just gasped, but I know me and if it was there, it would drive me NUTS.  Laying it out on the kitchen counter, I wet the section, and working in my mixture, and let it set for some time. Rinsed it well and washed it on gentle and the pictures are the quilt drying on the clothes line.

Removing a Stain from an Old Quilt

The side with the stain was in the full sun for the day and as you can see, it looks wonderful. bethanndoing.com

Removing a Stain from an Old Quilt

I would say the quilt is from the 50's, machine pieced and hand quilted wonderfully, at the writing of this, I'm at the computer and it's over my lap, I have an old friend back with me.

Two Color Quilt - Yellows and White

Two Color Quilt - Yellows and White

Simple and perfect, I love color and this one has turned out even better than I envisioned.

Two Color Quilt - Yellows and White

Three colors, the bold yellow, the calico flowers with yellow background and a crisp white, white.

Two Color Quilt - Yellows and White

The corners are something I've never done before, adding interest to the outside border.

Two Color Quilt - Yellows and White
The Quilt back, This quilt is hand drafted, machine pieced and I'm adding it to the hand quilt pile, which is huge. I heard once, from a national teacher, "That's what I'll do in retirement."  My plan, I have to get a new machine and learn to machine quilt ! Or win the lottery and get my own, long arm??? WOW, I need another project........?????

Different Sizes of Square made into a Quilt

Just Squares
Different Sizes of Square made into a Quilt

This is a perfect holiday quilt.  Nothing but squares.

Different Sizes of Square made into a Quilt

It's a mix of square sizes, the smaller are a cut size of 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and 2 1/2' x 2 1/2". Pieced into a 4 patch squares and then into rows.

Different Sizes of Square made into a Quilt

I don't strip piece and I cut all the squares (this is my thing) but it would be easy to do them that way.  I machine pieced and I'm sure it will not be ready for this holiday. Maybe, a Deck the Hall's pattern will be needed?

The First Quilt I ever Made

This is my first quilt

The First Quilt I ever Made

In the early 80's we moved to Burlington, Iowa, it's in the southeastern corner of the state on the Mississippi River and yes, I learned how to spell Mississippi.

The First Quilt I ever Made

I had done some blocks, some pillows and then I saw in the paper a class being hosted by the local quilt group. I remember it being expensive and how I agonized over it for days. but finally signed up.
The teacher was "Liz Porter" at the time she worked for one of the magazines, Better Homes maybe, but is was a wonderful day and I learned so much.

The First Quilt I ever Made

It was a color graduation class which meant nothing to me at the time, looking at the quilt today I didn't get the whole idea. Liz brought letters to add to each quilt to identify, I used my initials.

The First Quilt I ever Made
Hand quilting was so relaxing to me, I had no frame, just a dining room table, pinned it very well and quilted. I checked out library books on how to do everything. The quality of books we have now is crazy different from then.
The First Quilt I ever Made

I was approached to join the quilt group after the class. I think I was a rarity in the group a "new" member. I remember being laughed at when they saw my round corners on the quilt. I love these corners. This is my quilt, I curl up under it daily, it's washed all the time and it's just over 25 years old. It's never looked better.

This is a quilt that I made long ago, our oldest son's, I think? It has been on our guest room bed for years. I think I took it before he left....

I love the simple pattern, I machine pieced and it was long arm quilted.

Triangle and Square Quilt in Black and Scrap Fabric

I had fun with the back for the quilt too, The sun was so bright the day I took pictures that you can almost see through the quilt.
