An Old Quilt From Long Ago !

I'm going through old quilt pictures and this one just makes me smile

This quilt is from the first quilt book I purchased

"Holiday Happenings" by Christal Carter, published by That Patchwork Place, copyright 1987, it took me a bit of time to find the book on my bookcase it was on the very top, but,  in it's day it was a very popular book. This has to be my second or third quilt made, in the late 80's.

The patterns are all done around a log cabin.

This is the first time I did applique, and I didn't know how to do a blind stitch, so I did a running stitch on top of the pieces. As I look at it now, I see SO, many things that are not right, but I still like it, not perfect and all.

I machine pieced the quilt, hand applique and hand quilted.

Best Quilt BOOK I've seen in a LONG Time...Only Red and White Quilts

I shared a few weeks ago, that I had ordered this book  HERE

Mine arrived yesterday in the Mail, you know sometimes when you wait for something.....well... this is GREAT ! I've added the book link for you too.

I had breakfast with it this morning ! 

It is EVERY ONE of the quilts that were in the show.

Lunch with it !

Quilt, Hand Quilted and All Done

I've been hand quilting for quite a bit on this, it's what I've been taking to my Monday quilt group and it's now all done.

When I was teaching this is my beginner's quilt 5 week class, the class would have been 2 1/2" squares, I cut mine down for a table topper size.

HERE is my binding tutorial for you 

On a regular size quilt, I would cut my binding strips 2 1/2" wide, but on this little one, I cut them 1 1/4" wide.

I like, little quilts to have little binding.

All the sewing is the same, 1/4" seam allowance.

But, I like to trim the backing and batting about in half.

This is before the binding is turned and sewn down. You can turn it under and see what you like before trimming around the entire quilt.  I like to hand sew the binding down, I can get the corners, better and yes, you will have to mess with them a bit to get them perfect, they are VERY tiny.

A Wall Quilt Done and UP - It's a Big ONE

I've wanted to do this for a VERY long time. I have drawn it out, measured and re-drawn it. And, it's up and as I've said before I LOVE IT ! 

The Quilt measures 82 inches wide and 92 inches long! 

Machine pieced and machine applique.

I wanted it to cover the windows behind our bed. It's so sunny and light, this makes it dark, the older I get sleep is needed.... I don't sleep I don't keep up with Husband.

Husband made the frame, 

we covered it with batting.

Then staples the quilt on

 Backed it with a VERY heavy painters drop cloth, cheaper than yardage.

It's been a few weeks and I still walk in and can't believe it. 

AND, I'm sleeping ! (Happy Dance)
