My first ever blog post was today 9-22-2008, I've come along way, this my first post

WOW, I'm starting the road to get the quilt ladies published. Today the project was this blog. I've been asked by friends to get this started and it (the blog) was very easy to get going.

The books are at the book designer and I hope to get them back in the next month and ready for sell, ASAP after that. The next big project will be the web store page.

The decision to do the book myself has been a hard one, but I have to take the leap and just jump. After selling at craft shows and doing pretty good, I hope everyone loves them as much as I do. I have jpgs, of the covers and I'll try to get them on soon??? I've been told I can do it??

I'm learning so much

Sewing A Bed Ruffle - How to Make a Bed Skirt

I'm going to be 100% honest....

"If I knew what I know now, I would have written the check and purchased a ruffle."

And my ruffle didn't ruffle

Not hard, but planning it out, cost of fabric and TIME

I found lot's of ideas.

Measure, re-measure EVERYTHING and plan it OUT ! 

Used the old one's, thin lining. 

I left the green on until I was all done.

Added a border to each side and the bottom

After I had the two sides for each corner sewn on I didn't like seeing the mattress. I made corner insert.

Just Saying It's Time

Cut 1/4" Seam Allowance Before Borders Added

After your quilt blocks are sewn together,check and make SURE your seam allowance is 1/4"

These quilt blocks are set on point and I always cut "offsetting" triangles bigger and I MUST cut to a 1/4" seam allowance.  Doing this your border will be easier to sew on, as points will not be cut off and the seam will be straighter.

Murphy Bed Arrived

Husband is the number one person to find things on the internet and here's the latest, a Murphy Bed for my sewing room. 

It is so HEAVY and I don't know how we did it, but we did ! 

 Never say NEVER ! 

The last VERY HEAVY Lift ! 

Lifted it on to a chair on one side and then lifted the other side in. We were moving from side to side quick.

Is a Quilt, just a Quilt ??

Quilts just seem to find me???

I say this to myself all the time, 

"It's just a quilt, it's just a quilt."

But...it's not, it's history, it's a story, it's someone's life. 

This quilt looked just like this as I walking up to it, I asked and unfolded it. It was in pretty bad shape, with the fabric faded on about half of the blocks. But look !

This is a display in one of the quilt shops I visited recently.
They took fabric bolts, drilled a hole in the middle of them,
put a dowel rode in and fanned them out. 

WHY????

What a huge ride it has been

I think the funniest thing in the process of getting the blog up and working is Google/Blogger held my site for about a week, thinking The Quilt Ladies were another kind of ladies??? That still makes me SMILE ! 

This is was my first post.

Husband is On his Way Home !

I have to say,  "I'm ready for Husband to be HOME ! !" 

If not for more than I can sleep at night  ! 

Isn't it funny, how you work all day and never think pretty much anything? And when you lay down at night to sleep your mind goes in hundreds of different directions. And, then again maybe I just missed him? I did.....

I have SO many "honey do" projects for "US" to do the next coming weeks. 

Thanks for letting me share my time this past week, I've been doing these weeks for 36 years and I've never shared ! It's been fun for me and I hope for you !

Third Day HOME ALONE !

It's Day Three, Loving this
Received the phone call (a.m.), Husband is there and they are heading in, I won't hear from him until they come out. They car in, boat in, sleep in tents, fish, blah, blah, blah ! 
I'm sure it's the same way he thinks about me talking about quilts.

Want to see a grown man shiver in his work boots ?
Walk into Lowes with a yellow legal pad, tape measure and pictures from pinterest ! ! ! Yes, it was a metal tape measure not cloth, I've learned, they will laugh out loud at you, I know I did it....once. 

I'm home with cabinets, paint, and LOTS of plants, pots and soil, the lanai is MINE. 
Let the planting begin ! 

But, sanding is first,
I hate sanding, but yes they are "NEW" wood cabinets and yes, I'm painting them WHITE. 
A lite sanding and wiped them down to remove everything. I'll paint in the morning ! 

After the sanding I finished 8 quilt blocks, Loving them  !! For some reason with this project having so many fabrics I've just let it all be....a mess

I'm making Hamburger Helper 
Classic Stroganoff, funny I know that complete name ! 
Husband doesn't like it and I LOVE it !

Well, I'm figuring out the new Facebook page update thing...it's nuts. I have 3399 followers and my things are only releasing to 60-80 of you. Facebook is wanting me to purchase ad's daily, I can't afford that.

This is one of those quilts, that I use it's not quilted,
but makes a great table cloth or rocking chair back. Machine pieced and maybe some day hand quilted ??

I Finally Made the trip to Cross Creek, Florida

Years ago like lots of other's I read, "The Yearling" saw the movie and loved both.
I think in the 80's I found the book  Marjorie Kinnan Rawling also wrote, "Cross Creek." She had written it about the same time as "The Yearling".  

I fell in LOVE with "Cross Creek"

Early on when we came down to Florida to see family, I'd already planned to go see her home, as she had left it to the state.

But...that never seemed to happen.....UNTIL NOW 

I had goosebumps from the time we turned off the highway. Paid the $3.00 fee and
I walked through the gate.

It was as if I was talking into another time,

A bit like coming home.

The tree's and moss greet you as you walk onto the property.

She left it all to the State of Florida, Information HERE

Tours of the home are given, check times and days.

AND A QUILT ! 

Living Room

She was from the North, were electric was every where, but not in Florida, so she had a gas generator installed so she could have lights.

And Fans, this is Marjorie in the pictures

Her bed was a gift , as in the movie, "Cross Creek"

Notice the bathroom, her home had 2 IN DOOR bathrooms.

This afternoon is a visit I will cherish always. 

The lady doing the tour said,  

"As to Marjorie's request,

"There is NO gift shop."

I fell in love with her even more ! 

Just down the road a bit 

Side NOTE:

I took over 240 pictures in the 2 hours we were on the property.

They welcomed photo's but no flash of any kind.
