A Bit of Paint

It's cold here and I've moved my plants inside, and look what I found. A mess under the towel I'd put under the pots on this stand.

So, out came the sand paper, paint and in just a little bit of time.

The stand has been brought back to live. I used just a simple black craft paint and a satin varnish topcoat.

Second KC Quilt Show Day

WOW, What a day Thursday was. I'm in the middle of the learning curve. I was exhausted last night. After a great meal and 11 hours of sleep, I'm up and about ready to go again.

The morning was really fun, loads of people and lots of quilt talk. My sells are not great, but I'm new and a whole new way of looking at a quilt book. I've added to my speaking calendar and loved doing a presentation in the afternoon. The afternoon was very slow and I had time to ask many questions of the other vendor, they are great and very knowledgeable.

Husband has been a trooper and he's understanding the process of what I'm doing. I think this is all about building a base, as with everything in this journey, it will come......

As always, laughter, smiles and fun, I still can't believe I'm here. I've already won.

Beth

p.s. the ideas of flowing, I just keep writing them down, more and more to process.

Slap Me Silly - Here and it's Happening

We made it to Kansas City with no problems. They are having a true fall and the trees are beautiful. Both Husband and I are a bit overwhelmed, and if you know my husband that's hard to do. Pulled up unloaded and started to set things up. We had to stop a minute and regroup ourselves. And laugh a bit....

The booth came with an 8 foot table and he was sure that he could get a 6 foot, "It will fit better." Well, he tried and even with his charm. He came back and said, "This one will work just fine, they wanted $150 to exchange table." We had to laugh.

The set up went really smooth and I'm so happy to have Husband with me.

Nothing but, FUN, Laugher and Smiles. I'm here ! !

UNBELIEVABLE.....

Quilt Books and I are READY-SET-GO

This is just the last of the books to pack and I'm ready to go !
2 Large Suitcases, 3 boxes and 4 display pieces. Now, I know why they sent all the information about renting display pieces, I have it printed out to read later, I don't think I'll be able to do all this for a book show I have to fly to.
All Ready,

Four Patch Quilt Block Circle

I had to get away from all the construction going on in the basement and I started a new quilt. I had the fabric picked out and started cutting. It starts with medium color 4 patch squares.
With seam allowance included each block is cut 2 x 2 inch square and sewn to a cream background fabric.
I like to chain piece whenever possible.
This always happens, all by it's self. The pieces form a cirlce. Way cool.

My Office Quilt

This is a new addition to my office wall.
I found it ? Well, I do remember it, after seeing it. I found it in a box of really old ideas, patterns, etc. in our basement mess. I should have been doing the DryLok, or as I like to refer to it, cookie dough painting. Any way, I didn't get that wall finished, but I found some really great ideas. Boy, did I do my research to start a business. This quilt is 23" x 26" - machine pieced and hand quilted.

Sunday Afternoon Walk

One of the things I miss most about the two oldest Grand's moving away, is our Sunday afternoon walks. No matter the temperature, we headed out on Sunday afternoon, sometimes with their folks, but most times, just us.

I have been missing them recently and had to get out of the house this past Sunday.

We have this wonderful place here, called Trinity Heights, beautiful grounds, walking paths, and so peaceful.
http://www.trinityheights.com/

We talked about the boys as we walked, and remembered a walk on a sunny cold day, were Grand #2 had a little stick, he and Grandpa walked about how the ice was on the top of the puddle and water was under it. The stick broke the ice, his foot broke the ice, he jumped in the puddle (about 2 inches deep) we could do nothing, he was already wet.

I've been working with my camera, just a simple 4 to 5 year old Kodak trying to think about pictures differently.

The Queen of Peace,
I still miss everyone, but felt better.

My Corner of the World

I've found a blog I love and she's helped me remember what I like. Our last move was from my dream house a 1892 Victorian on a corner lot in Spirit Lake, Iowa. We re-did everything and I still miss it. Here in our 1970's ranch, I'd forgotten what just a little touch can do for me.

With all the Mums going crazy here, I've been adding them to each room, this morning seeing them on the vanity in my bathroom, made getting up not so bad.

My sewing room is nuts with everything piled every where for the quilt show, but after taking this picture and seeing it on the computer, I moved the flowers. Water and print..... Not a good idea.

Quilt Flyers Ready to GO

The color Printer has not stopped in days. The flyers are all done and just need some cutting and folding. Took just under 3 hours to do it all and one cute movie on TCM.

I've reworked all the copy and added the graphic to show the books. Hope to be able to have everyone who is at the show to go home with one?

Son #1 said, I'll run out of books before flyers...
Cross those fingers for that, I'm taking everything I have, let's do it.

My Quilting Handy Work

I've learned through the years that the way to a Quilter's heart is through hand quilting. This is my, "I can talk the talk, quilt the quilt," quilt. I've seen grown woman, sigh, giggle and try to hold their fingers back from touching this quilt.
It started out as a baby quilt, but it has been put to work as my opening for most speaking.
I can HAND quilt the quilt ! !

Quilt from Book 12

The process has started, 16 days and counting and I'm packing bags. I've never had to move 600 books and that in it's self is nuts. They are bundled, ribboned and ready to go. I carried up the tubs of quilts this morning and thought I'd show a couple that always go over good.

This is the close up of the smallest quilt from book 12, all about what a difference a 1/4 of an inch makes. The piecing was all cut with a rotary cutter and all pieced on a sewing machine.
Each block measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and the finished quilt is 11" x 11".
I'll not quilt this one, everyone likes seeing the back.

Adding the Down Comforter

The season is changing here and I've had to add the down comforter to the bed. I love the feel of all the cotton, but what a project.
I started the project thinking I was only going to add the comforter, well, it's all apart may as well change the sheets, the pillows go into the dryer, the quilt may as well wash it. It's all put together and crawling in... Priceless.

Remember a Time When

I was to add to the blog on Friday a "Show and Tell", for a blog I follow, romantic home, (more about that in a future blog).

Anyway, I have been painting/cleaning the basement, what a mess. But, I came upon a box of old photos. Great, I’ll look through it, have lunch and have a great blog to drive traffic to my blog??? Don’t ask…..

It was my high school box, and look who I found. I’m the one with dark hair and my best girl friend, Glenna. This was the spring of 1976 prom, it seems like yesterday, and was so…….long ago. One photo can bring up so much emotion. Glenna and I still talk every couple of months and I miss her terrible sometimes.

As I finished my second coat on the back wall of the basement, Dry Lock, like applying cookie dough to the wall, all I could think about was the difference from then and now.
Of course, I don’t look like that anymore, and I don’t think about anything the same way as then. I’ve learned so much. I don’t know what that’s from, age, books, or moving around so much. But, seeing this picture made me tired, made me long for a simpler time, when getting ready for a party took all day, laying in the sun with baby oil all over you, laughing about everything and eating red licorice by the pounds.

So, here’s my show and tell, I’ll post something else next week to drive traffic, this one’s for me, for growing old, and becoming an old lady, with wonderful memories and fantastic friends.

Picking Fabric - A New Quilt

Some of these fabrics came from my stash and the rest from a fabric store this morning. I'm doing a light background with medium and dark color triangles. Did the grocery shopping this morning and then spent sometime walking through fabric. Treated myself to a Starbuck's coffee (haven't done that for ages) on the way home and just enjoyed.

Off to cut and fold the flyers to hand out at the show. I'm getting there.
