Living with Quilts

I love having my quilts around me. I think with all the moving we have done as a family, I always know my quilts are close.
I'm a true believer that quilts are made to be used. I have only one quilt that's not used and it is one my Great-great grandmother made for my mom, when mom was a little girl.(Great Grandma's Quilt is now used by me. quilt pattern here for you )  But everything else in this house is used, washed and loved.
This little star quilt is at the front entry, so it greets everyone who enters.

On the library table.

This little quilt is larger that the top of the chest, but I just folded it to fit, it's made with 30's reproduction fabrics, these quilts are all 100% cotton, and all hand quilted by me.

Old Quilt Pictures

When we travel I take pictures of quilt too. I "ALWAYS" ask before taking pictures, to date I've not had anyone say, "NO" and most say thanks for asking.

These 2 quilts are from a Shop in Chillicothe, MO

Notice the red's and how it's the color that has stayed the best over the years

This is a simple 16 block square, each square was cut 2" x 2"
for a finished block of 6" x 6", quilting had been recently done by machine, blocks were also machine pieced.

Baskets set on point with out squares with lots of quilting

In the winter I started with one quilt on our bed and as the months go on even here in Florida, I add quilts as needed.  I had 3 quilts on the bed this year. I was removing them to wash and put away and decided to take a couple of pictures.

I machine pieced this quilt and had it long arm quilted.

I used scraps for the back and just had fun.

Used no pattern just pieced and let it happen.

Triangles in the Corners

Looking at this quilt now, "What was I thinking?"

Or, "I had way too much time on my hands !"

I like to trim the seam allowance so when it's quilted it's easier.

Paisley Quilt

I love paisley fabric and this is my vacation quilt.
I used a very different palette of colors and patterns, it's just fun.
Before the move this is the quilt that I put away here at the condo. Some times, it's nice to cuddle in a quilt no matter what the temperature is outside.
It's a very simple pattern, a 2 inch center square and then just log cabin around the outside with 1 inch strips.

The finished size is a square 50" x 50" a good size for curling up on the couch. I used a 100% cotton batting and hand quilted.
