How to Tie a Quilt with Yarn

Log cabin quilt tied with yarn

I use these needles, sometimes a larger one and sometimes not. After doing them I really think it's how I feel that day !

I like to use, "Peaches and Cream" yarn, soft but NOT TOO soft, it has to be to hold the knot.
Yarn tied quilt, how to

I like my cutting mat UNDER the quilt, so I don't push through and chip my table top.

Cut yarn about 30 inches long one thickness.

From the side you will see the knot, go down and up, going though, top, batting and backing.

Cut yarn

I do all the knots and then cut them all at the same time.

As I tie each one, I lay the yarn going down.

  1. Thanks for the tutorial. I like everything about this method....except seeing all those little tails. Do you think it would be possible to leave the tails longer and then thread each end on the yarn needle and bury them back inside the quilt? [you would have to use a thinner yarn...like crochet cotton etc]
