Gamble Plantation - Ellenton, Florida

Seeing something new in the area !

This is the other house on the property in Ellenton, Florida were the
Gamble Mansion is, I like this one !

I love porches and these are very grand. This home was owned by Major George Patten, purchased in 1872, for $3000.

"To avoid the high cost of maintaining the aging and decaying Gamble Mansion, the son of Major George Patten, Dudley A. Patten, built a more "modern" house in the 1890s. Eventually, the land was subdivided and sold."

Today the house is furnished and operated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, which opens it three times a year for tours, in February, March and November.

The view from the porch.

  1. The house is wonderful and now you are enjoying the wonderful weather in FL this time of year. The fall here in NE has been wonderful, I think the best so far since I lived here. I am glad you are enjoying the move. I would visit my parents at New Port Rickey for years. I miss the Gulf, their house was right on the canal.
